Active Plus Brings Bronx Youth Together for Back-to-School Community Day

On September 2, Active Plus hosted its Back-to-School Community Day in the Bronx, bringing together students, families, educators, and community partners to celebrate the start of a new school year.

In partnership with NYC Public Schools Community School District 10, the event created an afternoon centered around learning, movement, creativity, and community. Young people participated in a variety of activities, including STEM, arts and crafts, and sports, while families enjoyed food and refreshments throughout the afternoon.

Students also received school supplies to help them begin the school year prepared and ready to learn. Through the generosity of our supporters and community partners, Active Plus was able to provide resources that help address some of the everyday barriers students and families face at the start of a new school year.

The event was about more than backpacks and school supplies. It was an opportunity to bring the community together, celebrate young people, and remind students that they have a network of people invested in their success.

Celebrating Bronx Community Leadership

As part of the celebration, Active Plus honored Principal Carmen Felix of J.H.S. 118 – The William Niles School (10X118) for her leadership and commitment to the young people of the Bronx.

Her dedication to students and the broader school community reflects the importance of strong local leadership in creating supportive environments where young people can learn, grow, and thrive.
