Food for the soul

This past month, Active Plus joined the Outreach Program in the fight to end hunger. Over the weekend of November 12th, we had 50 of our Active Plus students, families, and staff volunteer package a total of 16,000 meals for local food pantries at the Salvation Army. From boxing to measuring food, to packaging it, volunteers were very busy in this effort for an important cause. The goal was 10,000 meals and we happily surpassed that; the event was a huge success!

A large portion of our volunteers were students from our Heal the Violence initiative. While volunteering, they learned the value of service, dedication, and community building. All of these values are in alignment with the Heal the Violence program mission. This was first-hand evidence of the long-term effects our programs have on our students, and how the lessons they learn come full circle, helping them grow as individuals.
