About Active Plus:
Roughly 40% of public school children age 14 or younger in the city are overweight or obese and approximately 20% of NYC youth aged 5-17 are estimated to have a mental health disorder, with minority and low-income children disproportionately affected in both categories. These early-life issues can and do have harmful lasting effects, including serious chronic physical and mental health problems and increased mortality rates.
Active Plus is a New York City-based non-profit dedicated to improving physical, mental, and emotional health and wellness among youth within at-risk local communities. Since 2015, we have designed and delivered engaging programming focused on fitness, nutrition, mindfulness, and life & leadership.
At Active Plus, we believe every young person deserves access to opportunities that help them move, grow, and thrive—regardless of their income, background, neighborhood, or athletic ability. Through free sports, wellness, leadership, and career exploration programs, Active Plus creates safe, structured spaces where underserved youth can build confidence, develop healthy habits, discover new interests, and connect with positive mentors.
